Tip-A-Cop" Raises Funds for Special Olympics of Northern California

Redwood City, CA - March 26 , 2004 - For many years, the members of the Redwood City Police Department have championed the efforts of the Special Olympics, which creates positive and enduring change in the lives of people with disabilities. Many police officers give of their own time and energy to work with these special athletes, their families, friends, coaches, volunteers, and all who cheer them on. The Special Olympics is a wonderful way to make a difference, and the Tip-A-Cop program is a great fundraiser for that organization.

On Monday, March 29, several Bay Area Stacks Restaurants will feature local police officers actually waiting on tables, with all of their tips going directly to the Special Olympics. In Redwood City, the Stacks Restaurant at 314 El Camino Real will participate from 7:30 am until 11:00 am, and invites people to enjoy a hearty breakfast, and make a donation to the Special Olympics through a tip for the fine service that will be provided by members of the Redwood City Police Department.

The Special Olympics is a grass-roots movement that provides year-round sports training and athlete competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities through more than 200 Programs in 150 countries around the world. Children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image. They grow mentally, socially and spiritually and, through their activities, exhibit boundless courage and enthusiasm, enjoy the rewards of friendship and ultimately discover not only new abilities and talents but "their voices" as well.
