Redwood City Public Library and Redwood City School District Reaching Out to Kindergarteners

Redwood City, CA - March 7 , 2005 - The Redwood City Public Library is partnering with the Redwood City School District in the KinderCard Campaign, an effort to provide library cards to kindergarteners and their families throughout Redwood City.

This campaign specifically targets kindergarteners in order to help foster a childhood love of books and reading, to open the door to our City’s libraries for kids to enjoy its programs, activities, and events, and to provide an opportunity for kids and their families to join together in the excitement and fun of using a library card, borrowing materials, and being part of the library community. And, a Redwood City Public Library card can be used at all Peninsula Library System libraries and online to borrow books, tapes, CDs, DVDs, and more.

The KinderCard Campaign kicks off this month with informational packets going to all kindergarten teachers, principals, and school library media staff. Then next month, library card sign-up packets will go home with each kindergarten student so their families can join in.

The Library and the School District are making it easier than ever to sign up for a library card, and in May will be throwing a City-wide “KinderCard Celebration” at the Downtown Library. This special event for kids, families, and school staff will feature many fun family activities, special guests, and prizes to thank everyone for becoming part of the Library community. At the event, families will enjoy Chiquy Boom the stilt-walking, balloon-twisting performer, Spot the Dog, known to generations of early readers, arts and crafts, storytelling, and more…it’ll be a SuperSaturday for the entire family!
