Awards and Distinctions

Redwood City's Building and Engineering organizations have received many honors and distinctions over the years. Here are a few of our recent awards of excellence:

2009 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Western Council of Construction Consumers, in recognition of excellence in engineering, design, and construction of the Redwood Shores Community Library.

2009 Award of Merit from the Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Public Works Association for the Redwood Shores Community Library.

Certificate of Achievement from International Surfacing Systems for recycling an estimated 60,371 tires by resurfacing 724,429 square yards of city streets with an asphalt rubber cape seal from 2003 through 2008. Over ten years ago, City Engineers switched from conventional chip seal to rubberized chip seal, specifying recycled tires be used in the rubber component. As an early adopter of this green technology, Redwood City was one of the first cities on the Peninsula to use recyled tires to resurface city streets.

2007 Excellence in Transportation Award from the California Department of Transportation for the Route 101/Ralston Avenue Interchange Reconstruction project.
