Draft Land Use Alternatives
A key part of the New General Plan process to date has been the development of draft land use options for four “focus” or geographic areas in Redwood City for which City planning staff felt the most significant change could occur over the next 20 years. These include the Bayfront, and the Woodside Road, El Camino Real, and Veterans/Broadway corridors.
Please note that all draft alternatives presented to date are conceptual in nature, for further discussion and review only. They have not been approved by the Planning Commission or the City Council.
Where We Are in the Process (as of December 2008)
City planning staff developed a first set of alternatives for each of the four focus areas, which were presented at the September 27, 2008 Community Workshop. The feedback received from participants, as well as additional input from City commissions and committees gathered in October through December 2008, enabled the planning team to further refine the alternatives for continued discussion purposes. While direction for both the El Camino Real and Woodside Road focus areas appears to have consensus, additional, significant work remains for the Veterans/Broadway and Bayfront areas.
Below are refinements to draft alternatives as of December 2008.
Once land use alternatives and policy direction are set, the community will have the chance to respond to proposed direction and plans – anticipated to occur early 2009.

Draft Land Use Alternatives from September 27, 2008 Community Workshop
Below are graphic displays of the draft land use alternatives presented at the workshop. The display boards show each focus area as it is currently built, as it would be built out from the existing 1990 General Plan, and the first set of land use alternatives developed as part of the New General Plan planning process.
