Redwood City to Host County Transportation
Authority Workshop on "Our Transportation Future"
Redwood City, CA - January 15, 2003
- On Saturday, January 24, 2004 the San Mateo County
Transportation Authority will hold a community workshop in
Redwood City to gather public input on which projects should
be included in the reauthorization of the county's Measure
A. The Transportation Authority administers the proceeds of
Measure A’s ½ cent sales tax for the county's
transportation needs.
This workshop presents an opportunity for members of the
community to let the Transportation Authority know their preferences
for investing in San Mateo County’s transportation future
– more public transportation better roads, improved
interchanges, shuttle programs, or non-motorized forms of
transportation. The workshop takes place from 10 am until
noon in the Council Chambers in City Hall, 1017 Middlefield
Road, in Redwood City.
“Transportation and traffic are among the most critical
issues facing our community today,” said Redwood City
Council member Ira Ruskin, the south county cities’
representative on the Transportation Authority Board of Directors.
“The prosperity and health of our County depends in
large part on the quality of our transportation and transit
systems, today and in the future. This is the time for the
community to influence what kinds of projects might be part
of the expenditure plan that will be included in the Measure
A renewal ballot measure. I urge all interested community
members to attend and tell the Authority what you want to
invest in for the transportation future in San Mateo County.”
Measure A was approved by voters in June 1988, and expires
in 2008. It included a specific expenditure plan with a broad
spectrum of projects and programs, including Caltrain upgrades
and improvements, highway and street projects, 20% allocation
for local streets and roads and paratransit service for people
with disabilities. For more information about the TA and its
