City and Neighbors to Celebrate Completion
of "New" Roosevelt Avenue
Redwood City, CA - January 20, 2003
- After over two years of work, the reconstruction
of Roosevelt Avenue between Hudson Street and Valota Road
is complete, and the neighborhood and community are invited
to join the celebration!
To commemorate the completion of the new streetscape, Redwood
City and the Roosevelt and Palm Park Neighborhood Associations
are proud to co-host a special Tree Planting and Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony this Saturday, January 24, 2004.
The special Roosevelt Avenue tree planting is an opportunity
for volunteers to help put in the final touch that will complete
the project. It begins at 8:00 am, and volunteers who are
willing to get their hands dirty should meet at the Community
Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue. Those people participating
in the tree planting should bring their shovel, gloves, and
brooms. The City is providing 24-inch box sized Sycamore and
Ash trees to be planted in designated locations within the
new planting strips on Roosevelt.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Redwood City Mayor
Jeff Ira is at noon at Hawes School, 909 Roosevelt Avenue.
The ribbon-cutting will be followed by hot dogs, chips, and
soda for everyone! This event is a great opportunity to meet
neighbors, share the pride of Roosevelt Avenue, and help to
build a great community in this neighborhood.
Roosevelt Avenue has been completely rebuilt with new sewer,
water, and storm drain systems, as well as new curbs, gutters,
sidewalks, and road surfaces. Many of the overhead utility
lines have been placed underground, greatly improving the
aesthetic appearance of Roosevelt Avenue for the residents,
and providing a significant upgrade to the utility systems
and the roadway.

recreation programs, education, and City government.
