Guest conductor to lead Redwood Symphony in Strauss' Alpine epic

Richard Strauss' last tone poem, An Alpine Symphony, will launch Redwood Symphony into the new year at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Main Theater of Cañada College, with a different hand wielding the baton.

Thomas Shoebotham, conductor of the Palo Alto Philharmonic, will take the podium in place of Maestro Eric Kujawsky to lead a program that will also feature Pärt's Ludus From Tabula Rasa and Vaughan Williams' Dives and Lazarus. Shoebotham will be returning the favor after Kujawsky led the Philharmonic in December. There will be a pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m.

Tickets from $10-$25 are available in advance at RedwoodSymphony.org and $10-$30 at the door. Children under 18, accompanied by an adult, are admitted free. Parking at Cañada College is ample and free.
