Redwood City to Name Pamela Aguilar as City Clerk

City Council to Consider Appointment of Ten-year Municipal Clerk Veteran

Redwood City, Calif. - The City of Redwood City announced today that the City Council will be considering the appointment of Pamela Aguilar as City Clerk following a formal recruitment process. The appointment and consideration of an employment contract with Aguilar, who currently serves as Menlo Park's City Clerk, will be discussed at their next meeting on June 12, 2017.

If appointed, Aguilar will oversee the City Clerk's Office, which stewards and protects democratic processes, such as elections and access to official records. The City Clerk is responsible for facilitating the business proceedings of the City Council, and fulfilling legal requirements as set forth in the City Charter, City Codes and State law. The Clerk's Office supports the City Council in its goals of innovation, transparency and fairness while promoting community participation and awareness.

"The City Clerk's Office has a strong commitment and reputation for professional customer service, serving the Council, City organization, and the community," said John Seybert, mayor of Redwood City. "Pamela's extensive regional experience, commitment to public service, strong customer service orientation and collaborative approach will be of tremendous value to the Clerk's Office."

Aguilar brings more than 10 years of experience as a municipal clerk for cities within San Mateo County. At the City of Menlo Park she oversees the day-to-day operations of the City Clerk's Office, keeps custody of the City Seal and acts as the City's local Elections Official, Legislative Recorder, Custodian of Records, and primary liaison to the City's Boards and Commissions. Prior to working in Menlo Park, where she also worked as Deputy City Clerk, Aguilar served as the Deputy City Clerk for the City of Belmont. Aguilar is a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC), Notary Public and a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the City Clerk's Association of California. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from California State University, Hayward, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley.

"I'm honored to be given the opportunity to serve the City of Redwood City," said Pamela Aguilar. "I look forward to working with the City Council, City staff and the community and being part of a team known for its innovation, collaboration and inclusiveness."

Aguilar is anticipated to begin work as City Clerk on July 10, 2017.
