Biography of Fina Torres, director of the Festival's opening film HAVANA EVA

Fina Torres is currently a director/writer/producer who brings experience from all areas of filmmaking to the role. After studying design, photography and journalism in Venezuela, Torres moved to Paris, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in cinematography from the Institute de Hautes Etudes Cinematographiques, IDHEC. She worked as a film editor, camera operator, and script supervisor after graduating, making short films and documentaries on the side. In 1985, Torres won the Cannes Festival Camera d'Or, among other twelve international prices, for directing and producing her debut feature "Oriana".

Torres co-wrote, produced and directed her second feature, a comedy, "Celestial Clockwork", in 1993, winner of four international prices. She directed and was the executive producer for Fox Searchlight romantic comedy "Woman on Top", Official Selection "Un Certain Regard" in Cannes Film Festival and nominated for Best Director at the 2001 Alma Awards. On 2007 she co-wrote the romantic comedy "Prada To Nada" produced by Odd Lot and Lionsgate, now in postproduction, and she just finished Habana Eva, film she co-wrote and directed, and was fully shot in Cuba. The film won Best Picture at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival last July.
