Starting February 1, 2013, the City Building Inspectors will no longer be performing the following inspections; it is the responsibility of the builder to self-certify the accuracy of their work.

Additionally, we will be altering/changing the way we perform the following inspections:

The Building Inspection Division is responsible for four major functions within the Community Development Department

-PERMIT PROCESSING AND COUNTER SERVICE:

• Our counter team consists of representatives from all sections of Community Development Department (Building Inspection, Engineering & Construction, Planning & Housing and Fire).

• Operation of the One-Stop Counter

• Issue Planning, Building, Engineering, and Fire Permits

-PLAN REVIEW:

• Plan review of 2,500 projects per year

• Residential plan submittal references & checklist

• Residential lighting requirements kitchen lighting requirements

• Bathroom, laundry, garage & other lighting requirements

• Outdoor lighting requirements

• Permit application checklist

• Fire sprinkler policy

• Local development standards

• Unreasonable hardship threshold

• Disabled accessibility in multi-storied dwelling units in buildings without elevators - SB 1025

-BUILDING INSPECTION:

• Building Inspections of construction projects totaling over 15,000 inspections per year

-CODE ENFORCEMENT:

• Exterior Code Enforcement inspections of 7,000 properties per year

• Regional efforts to streamline code and application procedures

• Implementation of ordinances adopted to improve the appearance of the City
