Sales Tax by Busniess District

The provision of sales tax information by geographic location is valuable for a few reasons.  By making this information available over time, comparisons are possible to identify trends that are tied to specific variables affecting a particular area.  In the downtown, for example, it is possible to identify the impact of recent development on nearby businesses.  In addition, as a business district grows, it is helpful to identify the types of businesses that have located recently to determine the strength of the business mix on the overall health and vitality of the district.  The currently measured business districts include: Redwood Shores, Downtown, Kohl’s Center, Seaport Center and Pacific Shores.  Geographic tracking also is helpful in comparing local areas to similar centers in other municipalities to look at competitiveness in the marketplace. These geographic areas do not capture several large sales tax generators such as transportation and big box retail.  More areas will be added to this site going forward.
