Let's Talk Books - Arthur Miller's The Crucible

“Harnessing that power in the service of ideas became Miller's life's work. He wrote fervently about individuals faced with terrible moral decisions, and he never wrote with more passion than in his fiery call to conscience, ‘The Crucible.’ The play caused a furor in 1953 by drawing clear parallels between the McCarthy hearings and the Salem witch trials of 1692. Miller gave his characters the odd diction of Colonial life, but the stakes were the same. Are you now or have you ever been?” - All Things Considered, 2005. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
