Courthouse Square Preferred Design Concept

On Monday, July 12, a joint study session of the City Council, Planning Commission, and Architectural Review Committee unanimously chose the design concept formerly known as "Alternative 3" to move forward as the preferred design concept for the plaza.

The design features beautiful linear pavilions along the east and west sides of the plaza. The pavilions match the historic courthouse in terms of materials and architecture very well. In fact, new visitors to the city will probably think they were there all along!

Next to the pavilions are a row of beautiful fountains which resemble Roman pots that will pour water into attractive pools. The plaza will feature many sitable areas and many variations in shade and seating to suit every sort of weather and every sort of mood.

In the center is a grand public plaza ideal for community events. It features an very attractive paving pattern and allows for a great view corridor between the historic Courthouse and the Fox Theatre, two of Redwood City's most beloved landmarks.
