Measure L
on the November 8, 2005 Ballot
Proposed Amendments to the City Charter
of Redwood City
These proposed amendments are intended to
reduce the amount of time and expense related to certain administrative functions of Redwood City. They do not change the governmental structure of the City.
Ballot question for Measure L:
"Shall specified sections of the City Charter be amended to allow appropriations or expenditures of public money to be approved by resolution; permit the City Council to establish by motion a date for the City Manager to submit a proposed budget; and permit the City Council to adopt its budget and cancel any approved appropriation by resolution?"
A "yes" vote on Measure L means that the voter is in favor of the proposed Charter amendments. A "no" vote on Measure L means that the voter is not in favor of the proposed Charter amendments.
Proposed amendments to Sections 15 and 51.5 of the City Charter would allow appropriations or expenditures to occur by resolution of the Council, instead of by ordinance as currently required.
Proposed amendments to Sections 51 and 51.5 of the City Charter would allow the City Council to establish the dates for the city manager's budget submission and budget hearings by motion of the Council, instead of by resolution as currently required.
Additional proposed amendments to Section 51.5 of the City Charter would allow the City Council to adopt a budget by resolution rather than by ordinance as currently required.
