Measure Q - Marina Shores Village Measure
on the November 2, 2004 Ballot
Jump to list of informational documents
The Marina Shores Village project was unanimously approved by the City Council in June. On July 27, a citizens group filed a referendum petition, seeking a public vote
to repeal the rezoning ordinance and thus halt the project.
The San Mateo County
Elections Office subsequently verified the validity and quantity of a sufficient number of signatures (equaling at least 10% of registered voters in Redwood
City, or 3,209 signatures).
As a result, at a special meeting on August 5, 2004 the City Council voted to place a measure on the November 2, 2004 ballot asking voters the following question:
"Shall Ordinance No. 1130-332, which was unanimously passed by the City Council, and that rezones property located at Peninsula Marina, Pete's Harbor, and adjacent roadway parcels, to a Planned Community District to allow a combination of uses including residential, commercial, marinas, parks and open space, be adopted?"
A "yes" vote on Measure Q means that the voter is in favor of adopting the rezoning ordinance, and thus of allowing the project to proceed.
A "no" vote on Measure Q means that the voter is not in favor of the rezoning, and thus prefers that the project, as presently configured, not proceed.
Marina Shores Village is a proposed mixed use residential / commercial complex located in the Bayfront area of Redwood City, East of Highway 101. The project will sit on two non-contiguous sites, the Peninsula Marina site and Pete’s Harbor site.
The total project site is approximately 46.5 acres. The project consists of up to 1,930 residential units in 17 multi-story towers, most atop 2-3 story above-grade parking podiums. The units will consist of town homes and condominiums. The maximum height of the tallest towers will be 240 feet. Up to 150,000 square feet of office space and a hotel of up to 200 rooms could be permitted. A locally-oriented commercial/retail area of at least 25,000 square feet, up to a maximum of 50,000 square feet, is required.
Marinas totaling a minimum of 7 acres, with dock space and/or moorings for a minimum of 60 boats, are required. The project will also include affordable housing for very low and moderate income households.
