Welcome to the Redwood City Police Citizens Academy.
Have you ever wondered why the police do the things they do? If you want those questions answered, consider signing up for the 21st annual Redwood City Citizen’s Police Academy.
The purpose of the academy is to educate members of the community about the roles and responsibilities of police officers. The academy covers topics similar to those taught to police recruits in a real academy. Classes are taught by veteran officers and other experts. Guest speakers sometimes include real ex-criminals and industry leading presenters. Topics include criminal law, narcotics, evidence and forensics, police hiring procedures, R.C.P.D. jail tour, K-9 demonstration, decision-making scenarios (where you are the cop) and much more. This is a hands-on program, which also includes live firearms training, live scenarios and defensive tactics.
There is no charge for the course and you must be at least 18 years-old. The academy meets for three hours every Thursday evening from 6:30 pm until 9:30pm.
An application is required and selected applicants must commit to attending all classes.
