Apply for Appointment to City Board, Commission or Committee
The City of Redwood City is seeking applicants for appointment to a variety of its boards, commissions, and committees. This is a wonderful opportunity for interested City residents to become directly involved in participating in City government and serving the community. Members of the community are invited to bring their interest, experience, and enthusiasm and apply for appointment to one of these boards:
- Architectural Review Committee
- Historic Resources Advisory Committee (Appointed by the Planning Commission)
- Home Improvement Loan Committee
- Library Board
- Planning Commission
These appointed bodies are an important and valued part of our City government, where public involvement is actively encouraged and supported. Members of these boards, commissions, and committees represent Redwood City’s diverse community and bring new ideas to the City Council and staff, helping them to make the best, most informed decisions possible for the benefit of everyone living and working in Redwood City.
Further information and applications are available by calling the City Clerk’s office at 650-780-7220, on the City’s website at www.redwoodcity.org (click on “Hot Topics” and select “Apply for a City Board” – here is the direct link), or by visiting the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City. General requirements are that applicants have an interest in civic and community improvement, are a resident of incorporated Redwood City, and are eligible to vote (some board or commission positions may have additional requirements or preferred areas of expertise).
The deadline for submitting applications is 5 pm, Friday, February 27th, 2009.

Sign up for Redwood City CERT Program
Redwood City's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is a great way for neighbors to join together and prepare for potential disaster such as earthquake, major fire, or flood.
The next CERT training course starts on Thursday, February 19th, and continues on February 21st and 28th, so the time to sign up is now! To learn more, go online (visit www.redwoodcity.org; click on “Emergency Preparedness” and then on CERT). Or, call 780-7400 for more information, to reserve a slot in the upcoming CERT training series, or to get on the list to be notified of future classes.
The 20-hour CERT program educates community members about how to best prepare their household, family, and neighborhood for a potential disaster, and how to respond during the aftermath of an emergency that impacts their street, block, or neighborhood. It provides community members with training in basic disaster response skills including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster medical operations, and more.

EIR Process for New General Plan Begins with "Scoping Meeting"
Many of you have been involved with the development of Redwood City's New General Plan - it's the blueprint for the future of our community, how our City will look, how development will occur, and what the community wants our City to be. Now, after more than a year of gathering your input, comments, opinions, and ideas, the next phase begins: the creation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the New General Plan.
To prepare for this step, the City must gather information on the potential environmental effects that should be evaluated in the EIR for the New General Plan. This initial process begins with a Community Scoping Meeting which will provide you with an opportunity to offer verbal and written input about what environmental issues you think the EIR should examine.
The Redwood City Planning Commission will hold a Community Scoping Meeting on February 17, 2009 beginning at 7pm in the City Hall Council Chambers, 1017 Middlefield Road. You're invited to attend and participate in this important step in creating the New General Plan for your community. You can also send written comments to Tom Passanisi, Principal Planner, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063 (or email to generalplan@redwoodcity.org)
Concurrently, the City has prepared an official Notice of Preparation (NOP) for the EIR on the New General Plan. The NOP describes the proposed project (the new General Plan) and the environmental review process, and identifies potential environmental effects that will be evaluated in the EIR. The NOP will be online at www.redwoodcity.org/generalplan as of February 9, 2009.

Be Sure You're Notified in Case of Emergency with CodeRED
Redwood City’s emergency high-speed telephone notification system, CodeRED, lets the City deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification messages to targeted areas or the entire City at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. Its database of phone numbers is significant, but many people would benefit from including their cell phone, work phone (even if out of the area), or other alternate number. By doing so, they are sure to be called when a CodeRED alert is activated in the area of their home or business.
Please go online to update their information or add an alternate phone number to ensure timely notification.
During a CodeRED alert, both the primary and alternate number will be called. This service is available to all Redwood City addresses, as well as those outside the City limits in the North Fair Oaks, Emerald Hills, or other unincorporated areas directly adjacent to Redwood City.
