For the 11th year, individuals representing San Mateo County, local cities, civic organizations and congregations will host the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration and Freedom Train at the Downtown San Mateo CalTrain Station. The annual Celebration, with continental breakfast, begins with an arts pre-program at 8:30 a.m. The Freedom Train will make its only San Mateo County stop at 10:00.
Harold Brooks, CEO of the Red Cross of the Bay Area, has been selected as the 2010 Honorary Chairperson and Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto is the 2010 Honored Organization for Advancing Civil Rights.
San Mateo County participants will join 1,500 Freedom Train riders to the San Francisco MLK, Jr. Day walk to the Yerba Buena Gardens event. Special San Mateo County Freedom Train tickets are sold only at the MLK, Jr. Day Celebration. Regular CalTrain tickets are not valid. Freedom Train tickets are good on any return train that day.
The 2010 celebration is supported by County Sponsor ReCology: San Mateo County.
