A community of just over 75,000 people, a center of high-tech industry, and the mid-point of the beautiful San Francisco Peninsula, Redwood City is known for its great climate and profound sense of community. Redwood City is devoted to preserving rich history, maintaining today’s quality of life and carefully planning its future.

In the fall of 2006, Redwood City unveiled a 6 city block downtown that included wider sidewalks, Courthouse Square (public gathering space) set adjacent to a renovated Historical Museum, and a user friendly approach to entertainment! Redwood City is positioning itself to become the “Arts and Entertainment Destination of the Peninsula”.

The Recreation Department has made the commitment to organizing and staffing a year round schedule of activities and programs in the “New Downtown”. The Recreation Department and Redevelopment Agency partnered to bring free live music, outdoor movies, instructional dancing evenings (with live music) and other public events in 2007. These 51 events in 2007 attracted over 42,000 people to Downtown.

Redwood City saw the potential and in 2008 took the events programming to another level. 78 events were held that attracted over 82,000 people to Downtown. Attendance for the live music, outdoor movies and instructional dancing evenings doubled from the 2007 numbers and there was a buzz on the Peninsula about what was going on in Downtown Redwood City.

Redwood City is continuing its programming into 2010 and looking for sponsors who would like to be a part of the most exciting area on the Peninsula. Sponsorship of existing events or creation of new events to sponsor are welcome.
