A Message from Chief Skinner
Thank you for spending some time to visit our website. The Redwood City Fire Department has a proud history of serving our community. For more than 150 years our innovative and courageous men and women have worked hard to keep our citizens, businesses and visitors safe. Much has changed since horse drawn steamers ran the streets of Redwood City, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is our staffs dedicated commitment to serve our community to the best of our ability.
Over the years, Redwood City leaders have remained diligent in making sure our equipment, facilities and apparatus are “state of the art”. Due to these efforts we have been awarded a class two rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). This rating places the department in the top 1% safest of all U.S. municipal rated fire departments.
Today the community is much safer because of advancements in code enforcement and our efforts in fire prevention and education. Thus, firefighters are more versatile than ever as they spend more time responding to medical emergencies as they do fire calls. We are also faced with the constant challenges of responding to and preparing for natural disasters, weapons of mass destruction and specialized rescue calls.
I am very proud to lead an organization made up of such dedicated and committed individuals who go above and beyond what is expected of them daily. We take great pride in our connection to the community and this culture of connectivity is what we do because we care.
