Fire Prevention Bureau
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Redwood City Fire Prevention
Bureau comprises of the following personnel:
- Administrative Chief/Fire Marshal
- 3 Fire Prevention Officers (FPO’s)
- Fire Prevention Secretary
The functions of the Fire Prevention Bureau include the following:
- Fire Safety Plan Review
- Fire Inspection of new and existing construction
- Consultation with prospective developers and builders on public
safety issues
- Fire Investigation
- Mitigating complaints and other fire hazards
- Fire Public Education
- Participate in community outreach programs
- Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Program
Fire Prevention Officer:
A Fire Prevention Officer possesses a combination of experience
and education in the following areas:
- Fire inspections
- Fire investigations
- Determining cause and origin of fires
- Collecting and properly handling evidence
- Ability to testify and present evidence in court
- Ability to develop and implement community fire prevention
programs
- Interpret and enforce applicable codes, ordinances and laws
- Knowledge of fire and life safety systems including, but not
limited to fire sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, fire alarms
systems
Fire Prevention Officers are certified by the California Fire Service
and Education System as the following:
- Fire Prevention Officer I, II, III
- Fire Investigator I and II
- Fire Inspector
- Fire Protection Specialist
- Plans Examiner
- Fire Marshal
