Community Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility
Here’s how you can help
- Be aware of unusual vehicles or activity in your neighborhood. If you see suspicious activity, people, or vehicles, call the Redwood City Police Department’s non-emergency dispatch line at 780-7100, or leave an anonymous tip on the hot line at 780-7110.
- In an emergency call 9-1-1.
- After hours, if you have a non-life-threatening urgent need or situation requiring a police officer, you can call the police directly at 369-3331.
- Communicate with your neighbors. Get to know the people who live on your street, and make an agreement to keep an eye on each others’ houses when no one’s home.
- Attend your neighborhood association meetings, get to know other members of your community, and learn more about what’s going on in your neighborhood – go to redwoodcity.org or call 780-7300 to learn which neighborhood association covers your street.
- Get together with your neighbors and plan a block party, outdoor barbeque, a block meeting in a home, or other group activity to share information and ideas, and help to build stronger neighborhood connections.
- The Redwood City Police Department’s Community Coordinating Activities Team (CCAT) works with the community on public safety issues, coordinates Neighborhood Watch meetings and neighborhood association meetings, and provides officers to speak at schools and service organizations – 780-7171.
- Report traffic problems: 780-7146; report graffiti: 780-7304; report a broken street light: 780-7464; call the Police Activities League: 780-7619; schedule a school presentation, or learn more about how you can help keep our community safe, call 780-7100.
- Make sure the outside of your home is well-lit, that your shrubs and bushes are trimmed, that your neighborhood is cleaned up, and broken windows are repaired – make your neighborhood less-desirable to the gang members by making it more attractive, and by making sure you and your neighbors are more visible and active.
- For more information on community safety topics, you can visit the Police Department’s web page.
- To learn about after-school programs, contact your local school, call our Parks department at 780-7250, or contact our Library at 780-7026.
