For Immediate ReleaseChange in Hours for Redwood City Building Department Service Counter
Redwood City, CA - March 25, 2003 - Redwood City's one-stop Building service counter, located at City Hall, will be changing its hours as of Monday, March 31st. The new hours are:
The counter has been open until 6 pm, but with the very low number of customers coming in after 5:30 pm, it was determined that the counter hours could be reduced by one-half hour. This change is not expected to have any impact on the services provided to the public, but will effect a slight cost-savings.
The professionals who staff the one-stop service counter help people with building permits, plan review, inspections, and code enforcement. Even with the slight change in hours, no other building department on the peninsula has these hours of uninterrupted services, in addition to service on Saturdays. "It's all part of our core value of providing exceptional customer service to the community," says Dennis Corbett, Senior Building Inspector. "Our one-stop service counter already saves people time and money on their building projects, and we make it as convenient as possible for folks to come in early, or late, or on a Saturday morning."
Redwood City's one-stop Building service counter features representatives from Building and Inspection, Engineering and Construction, Planning and Redevelopment, and Fire Prevention, all available at one time to review and issue permits. Instead of walking from office to office to obtain information or approvals (as in some cities), Redwood City's customers come directly to City Hall where they are greeted by a Permit Technician who will help them obtain the proper reviews and guide them through the process. The types of permits people are obtaining include those for minor tenant improvements, small residential remodels, and signs. The ultimate goal of the staff at the one-stop service counter is to provide fast, courteous, and efficient permit processing and information at one central location. To do this, the counter services are geared to provide as many "over the counter" reviews as possible.
