Middlefield Road from Broadway to Winslow
to be Closed for Next Two Years as Downtown Construction Continues
Redwood City, CA - October 13, 2003
- Beginning Wednesday, October 16, Middlefield
Road from Broadway to Winslow will be closed to through-traffic
to allow for the construction of the City’s underground
parking garage, and later the Downtown retail/cinema project.
This closure is expected to last for the duration of construction,
approximately two years.
This one-block section of the street will be closed from its
intersection with Broadway to where it meets Winslow Street.
The businesses on that portion of Middlefield Road will remain
open – those businesses are eClips Now!, Prestige Photography,
St. Regal Jewelers, Great Haircuts, and Custom-Fit Shoe Service.
The closure will not change the location of the Farmer’s
Market. Access to the Caltrain parking lot will be limited
to the Winslow Street entrance, and the parking spaces will
be reconfigured to provide a staging area for the contractor.
Appropriate signage and detours will be in place, and motorists
are urged to use extra caution when driving in the vicinity,
and to be aware of detours, slow traffic, and construction
equipment and crews. Pedestrians are also urged to exercise
additional caution in the area. The sidewalk on the north
side of the street will remain open for business access, with
a construction fence encompassing the entire street.
