The Life of John Steinbeck Presented at the Redwood City Public Library

Redwood City, CA - January 9, 2003 - The life of John Steinbeck will be featured in a special presentation sponsored by the Redwood City Public Library. John Steinbeck, winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize for Literature, is renowned as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. His life and times will be featured in a slide show and talk on January 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the main library. Presenter William McPheron is the William Saroyan Curator of British and American Literature at Stanford University. The Friends of the Library sponsor this free program.

Dr. McPheron holds degrees from Princeton and Yale Universities, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of New Mexico. He is the author of a number of books, catalogs, and bibliographies and he has given numerous talks on various writers including Allen Ginsberg and William Saroyan.

Next month marks the 101st anniversary of the birth of John Steinbeck, and this event is an opportunity to further bring his work to a new generation of people, to raise the public’s awareness of great literature, and to inspire our young people to not only discover and learn from the writing of John Steinbeck, but also to expand their perspectives by embracing literature. This free event is open to the public.
