Women's History Month Celebrated by Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department

Redwood City, CA - February 27, 2003 - The public is invited to join Redwood City’s 9th Annual celebration of Women’s History Month, “Patchwork of our Lives” on Saturday, March 8, 2003 beginning at 2:00 pm. The celebration takes place at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center located at 1455 Madison Avenue in Redwood City.

A wonderful and diverse program will bring women’s history to life, starting with women’s history displays and memorabilia that will entertain and educate. Redwood City Councilwoman Barbara Pierce will comment, and other presentations and entertainment include poet Jane Miller, the John Gill Elementary School 4th Grade girls, teacher/singer Lua Hudar, Grupo Flamenco de Adela Clara, the Mission Valley Chorus, award-winning quiltmaker Erna Koch, and Cheryl McNamarea’s Tap Group and Special Dancers. The cost is $5 per person, with children under 12 free. Light refreshments will be served.

The Veterans Memorial Senior Center offers a variety of programs and services, including innovative and creative classes, dinner dances, lectures provided by local historians, great food, information and referral, health and fitness classes that focus on wellness for free or at a very low cost. The Center is operated by the Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, which provides recreational facilities and activities for all ages and interests, and supplies building and custodial services for City buildings. Redwood City Parks operates the Fair Oaks Community Center, providing social, educational, and cultural activities, as well as information, referral, and counseling services to persons living in Redwood City and neighboring communities.
