Study Session Scheduled to Select Single Courthouse Square Design Concept for Further Refinement
Redwood City, CA - July 9 , 2004 -Redwood City community members, staff, elected officials, and other interested people have discussed several design alternatives for the Courthouse Square to be implemented Downtown. Through multiple public workshops and study sessions, those alternatives have been narrowed down to two possibilities. Now, a second joint meeting of the City Council, the Planning Commission, and the Architectural Review Committee is scheduled to further narrow the focus to a single design concept, to be used as the basis for final design and review.
The Study Session is scheduled for Monday, July 12, 2004 at 7:00 pm in City Hall Council Chambers, 1017 Middlefield Road in Redwood City. The public is encouraged to attend and comment on the revised design concepts.
The City is planning to remove the annex building and restore the façade of the old Courthouse on Broadway, across from the Fox Theater. With the annex gone, the opportunity will exist to create a great public space for the City, a comfortable place Downtown for people to gather, meet, and be part of a real community, in the manner of a central gathering place, a plaza, or a town square. This concept will help to bring pedestrians and new life and vitality to the Downtown area. It’s part of the renaissance of our Downtown that is coming together, and part of building a great community together.
