Community Invited to Attend Special Presentation at March 28 Council Meeting: Healthy Streets for Healthy People
Redwood City, CA - March 15 , 2005 -
The City Council has scheduled an extraordinary speaker for their March 28th meeting, and the community is invited to attend.
Mr. Dan Burden, a nationally-acclaimed pedestrian, bicycle, traffic calming, and livable communities expert, will discuss how to bring back full and vital health to our neighborhood and town center streets, sharing his knowledge of best principles, practices, and case studies for creating healthy streets in our communities. Mr. Burden’s presentation will include an overview of how to do a complete checkup, diagnosis and overall health analysis of our neighborhood and town center streets to restore them to health, by utilizing the latest innovations in street design and new approaches to creating more pedestrian-friendly communities.
This meeting will start at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 28th, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road. The Council meeting will be broadcast on cable channel 26 (RCN) and 27 (Comcast).
Mr. Burden is the Director of Walkable Communities, Inc., (www.walkable.org) a member of the National Advisory Board of Active Living By Design, and the former Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for the State of Florida Department of Transportation. He has taught bicycle and pedestrian facility design in hundreds of different communities throughout the nation and has personally photographed and examined walking and bicycling conditions in over 200 cities in the U.S. and abroad. He is a nationally-recognized authority on bicycle and pedestrian facilities and programs, and has worked as a consultant, planner, expert witness, and author.
