Redwood City a Nationwide Leader in Building & Inspection Effectiveness
Redwood City, CA - July 26 , 2007 -
Redwood City has been recognized by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) as a leader in regional, state, and national code adoption activities, training efforts, and development of policies and procedures that are uniformly used throughout the region.
This means that Redwood City’s Building & Inspection program, a division of its Community Development Services department, provides the greatest prospect of reduced injuries and loss of life, reduced property losses, and reduced economic and social disruption caused by catastrophes. And, it means that owners of newly-built buildings in Redwood City have the greatest prospect of lower insurance rates. Our exemplary rating puts Redwood City in the top 6.7% in California and the top 1.8% nationwide.
Every five years, ISO evaluates the jurisdiction’s effectiveness in:
- Adoption and enforcement of current codes
- Training, certification, expenditures, and incentive programs
- Qualifications, certification, and experience of personnel
- Participation in regional, state, and national code development
- Programs that mitigate natural disasters
- Contractor licensing and bonding verification
- Public awareness programs
- Staffing levels
- Level of detail for plan review and inspections
- Quality control programs
The ISO rating system is 1 through 10, with 1 being the best. With nearly 9,000 jurisdictions being rated throughout the country, Redwood City was given a rating of 2 – only 157 other jurisdictions out of those 9,000 received a 1 or a 2 rating.
