The Big Read offers the classic book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, which is available in English and Spanish throughout the community – at City libraries, community centers, book stores, and other locations. The community is invited to read the book, and then join in any of the incredible number of community events throughout March, all centered around reading! The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with Montalvo Arts Center, and is designed to restore reading to the center of our communities. Go to redwoodcity.org/thebigread or montalvoarts.org/thebigread.html for details.
The Big Read is an exciting, interactive program of activities, discussions, presentations, and lots of fun as we build a great community together. This is the perfect opportunity for the wonderful diversity of residents in our community to sit down together with a common interest, and discuss ideas that are important to them. Movies, book discussions, “meet the author” events, kids’ storytimes, book-making workshop, panels and seminars…something for every member of the family to enjoy, together – including a live interview with author Ray Bradbury (via satellite), and an outdoor “Fair on the Square” on March 31 st!
This event is part of The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in Partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
