Redwood City , San Mateo County Partner for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event
Redwood City, CA - August 8, 2007 - The City of Redwood City is hosting a San Mateo County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event thisSaturday, August 11, 2007 from 8:30 am until noon, at the City’s Public Works Services parking lot, 1400 Broadway.
AN ADVANCE APPOINTMENT IS REQUIRED TO DROP-OFF ACCEPTABLE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. Anyone interested in helping to reduce the danger and pollution from improper disposal of household hazardous waste is encouraged to visit www.smhealth.org/hhw or call the San Mateo County Household Hazardous Waste hotline at (650) 363-4718 for information and to make an appointment for drop-off.
The average home uses and stores more than 60 hazardous products. Most household products like cleaners, paints, pesticides, and car products are safe if used and stored correctly. These same products can become dangerous when disposed of improperly. For example, if toxic household wastes are thrown into the trash, they can injure or harm trash collectors. If these wastes are dumped in the gutter or down the drain, they will contaminate water or disrupt the sewage treatment process.
To provide an easy and convenient way to properly dispose of these items, San Mateo County provides several Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events throughout the year, in various cities.
Making an appointment is easy, and it’s an opportunity to do the right thing and properly dispose of these items.
The collection event DOES ACCEPT:
