The Redwood City Library Presents in June: Two Incredible “Meet the Author” Events: Bob Calhoun, and Garth Stein; and, Extraordinary Live Music by Kenny Blackwell & Dorian Michael!

Redwood City, CA - June 6th, 2008 – The Redwood City Public Library is thrilled to bring the community two wonderful “Meet the Author” events in June, as well as a very special live concert, all at the Downtown Library, 1044 Middlefield Road. These events are FREE.

  • Meet the Author: Bob Calhoun, Thursday, June 19th, 7 pm in the Fireplace Room - In his book, Beer, Blood & Cornmeal: Seven Years of Incredibly Strange Wrestling, Redwood City native Bob Calhoun provides an inside look at the long-gone age when punk rock and wrestling ruled San Francisco. Beer, Blood & Cornmeal is currently on the San Francisco Chronicle’s Bay Area paperback best-seller list.

Meet the Author: Garth Stein. Tuesday, June 24th at noon in the Community Room - Once every few years a novel comes along that touches its readers so deeply that it changes the way that they look at their own lives. Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain, a heart-wrenching love story and a moving tale of redemption, narrated in the opinionated and insightful voice of an extraordinary mutt named Enzo, is one such novel.

Garth Stein is the author of three novels, The Art of Racing Rain, How Evan Broke His HeadandOther Secrets, winner of a 2006 PNBA Book Award, and Raven Stole the Moon. He worked as a documentary filmmaker for several years, co-producing The Last Party, starring Robert Downey, Jr. In addition, he has directed and/or produced several other films including When Your Head’s Not a Head, It’s a Nut, which aired nationally on PBS and was awarded a gold medal by the International Epilepsy Foundation.

  • Live music by Kenny Blackwell & Dorian Michael, Wednesday, June 25th at 7 pm in the Fireplace Room - This will be an exciting and fun live performance of duo Kenny Blackwell (mandolinist of the famed Laurel Canyon Ramblers) and guitarist Dorian Michael. Says Dorian, "Some music makes you feel deeply, some music makes you think and some tunes are played just for the sheer fun of it. We like to try to get to all those places in the space of a concert.”
These are just three of the many events and activities offered each month by the Redwood City Public Library - the learning center of our community.
