Community Invited to Official Unveiling of Draft New General Plan
Redwood City, CA - July 23, 2009 - The Planning Commission and City Council of Redwood City invite the community to a special “Open House” Workshop and Joint Study Session that marks the official unveiling of the draft New General Plan. This is a major milestone in the development of the New General Plan, offering a great opportunity for the community to learn about the Plan and participate in shaping the future of Redwood City.
- Monday, July 27th, 2009
6 pm “Open House”
7 pm meeting
Lobby / Council Chambers at City Hall
1017 Middlefield Road
At 6 pm participants can enjoy light refreshments, browse informational displays, informally talk with members of the City’s New General Plan staff/consultant team about the Draft Elements of the New General Plan, get their questions answered, and offer their comments.
Then at 7 pm, the official meeting starts with an overview presentation of the Draft Plan, followed by discussion and comment by the City Council, Planning Commission, and community members. Based on that discussion, the Council and Commission members will direct staff on the next steps in preparation of the draft Elements and Plan. This is not a final decision-making point; the draft Elements and Plan will come back to the Council and public for final review at a later date.
The various topic areas, or “Elements,” contained in the New General Plan are represented at the information tables with documents, maps, and other materials. Participants can visit all the information tables, or just go to the ones in which they’re most interested:
- Land Use/Urban Form
- Circulation
- Historic Resources
- Infrastructure
- Economic Development
- Housing
- Building Community
- Public Safety
- Natural Resources
Staff members at each table will answer questions and take comments on any aspect of the Draft New General Plan. There will also be comment cards at the tables. Visit www.redwoodcity.org/generalplan or call 650-780-7234 for more information.
The General Plan is the document that establishes policies, goals, and programs for the long-term physical development of our community, and for what we want our City to be for future generations. The community is a crucial part of shaping that future, and this series of study sessions is another opportunity to help create the plan that will guide our community’s progress for years to come.
The creation of the Draft New General Plan is directed by a set of Guiding Principles, developed through a lengthy community-based process and confirmed by the City Council.
