Four More Businesses “Certified Green” in Redwood City
Redwood City, CA - August 7, 2009 - At its August 10, 2009 meeting the City Council of Redwood City will honor and congratulate four local businesses upon their official certification as being “green,” as part of San Mateo County’s Green Business Program. They latest Redwood City businesses to achieve green certification are Care2.com, Lyngso Garden Materials, The Office City, and Trillium Dental. This brings to 14 the total number of Redwood City businesses that have been certified green, including the city’s City Hall.
The Green Business Program is a partnership between cities, San Mateo County, environmental agencies, the Association of Bay Area Governments, and utility companies that assists, recognizes and promotes businesses that volunteer to operate in a more environmentally responsible way.
To be certified "Green," businesses are required to be in compliance with all state and local regulations, and then meet the program’s other standards for conserving energy and water, preventing pollution, and minimizing waste.
“These businesses have committed to reducing waste and conserving resources, and they are a shining example to other businesses in Redwood City,” said Redwood City Mayor Rosanne Foust. “They’ve discovered that they can go green, that it doesn’t cost a lot of money, and in fact they can save money reducing energy and water use.”
Businesses wishing to apply for Green Business Certification can do so by visiting www.recycleworks.org.
