Redwood City and San Mateo County Hosting Free World Environment Day “Fiesta” at Courthouse Square
Redwood City, CA - May 21, 2009 – This June, as the United Nations sponsors the 37th annual World Environment Day in Mexico City, Mexico, the Redwood City community is invited to celebrate and participate locally at our first annual World Environment Day Green Fiesta at Courthouse Square. Sponsored by Redwood City and San Mateo County RecycleWorks, this new family event takes place on Friday June 5th from 4 – 8 pm, at Courthouse Square.
The entire community is invited to join friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate 2009 World Environment Day – it’ll be great family fun including:
- Mariachi band (4 - 6 pm)
- Latin/Reggae band (6 - 8 pm – part of the regular schedule of summer concerts)
- Free Green Giveaways
- Launch of the “Redwood City Verde” program
- Free drawing for prizes
- Information booths on “going green” in your house and neighborhood
Held in conjunction with the City's summer concert series, this event offers community members an opportunity to talk with exhibitors about how everyone can reduce their home energy use and green their lifestyles. It’s all with a focus on fun!
Redwood City is combining the Green Fiesta with the United Nations Environment Program’s World Environment Day (www.unep.org/wed) in an effort to raise awareness and participation in protecting our environment at the local level. World Environment Day is an annual program celebrated around the globe, this year focused in Mexico City.
