Redwood City Offers Green@Home Training for Volunteers to do Neighborhood Home Energy Audits
Redwood City, CA - January 7, 2009 - The City of Redwood City is partnering with Acterra, a non-profit environmental education organization, to offer FREE energy-saving House Calls to their neighbors in Redwood City. Volunteers are needed to carry out this important community building activity!
Acterra trains volunteers to provide basic energy audits, and also to help neighbors with energy-saving techniques and training on how to install free energy-saving devices (which are all included for free as a part of these energy audits), such as:
- retractable clothesline
- compact fluorescent light bulbs
- faucet aerators
- low-flow showerhead
Many people are concerned about climate change; others’ concerns are focused on rising energy prices and energy use. In any case, becoming a Green@Home volunteer provides the opportunity to help your neighbors reduce their carbon emissions, save energy, and save on their energy bills. And after learning how to do a basic home energy audit, volunteers can of course use these techniques on their own homes.
Volunteer trainings consist of two, 3.5-hour classes. We're offering special training to all Redwood City residents on Wednesday, January 14 & 28, 6:15-9:45 pm at City Hall in Downtown Redwood City, 1017 Middlefield Road.
Please RSVP to Liz Muir, the Green@Home Coordinator at (650) 962-9876, ext. 350 or by email at lizm@acterra.org. And as always feel free to bring along a neighbor or two.
