Families and Pets Invited to Redwood City’s 10th Annual Pet Parade!

Redwood City, CA - April 25, 2011 - Redwood City announces “The 10th Annual Pet Parade,” the wildly popular annual event inviting children, adults, and families to show off their pets, whether furry, feathered, or scaled, and vie for a $100 Grand Prize for the top winner! This fun community event takes place on Saturday, May 21st from 11 am – 3 pm, with the parade starting at 12:30 pm, and it’s all happening in beautiful downtown Redwood City on Broadway and Courthouse Square.

This year will be more exciting than ever - leading the Parade as the official Grand Marshall we have “Dusty” the “Klepto Cat,” the celebrity cat who’s appeared on Animal Planet, The David Letterman Show, CNN, and KGO. Dusty will be riding through the Parade along with many of the items that he has stolen from his neighbors throughout the years. There is video of Dusty in action available online – search YouTube to find it!

Hundreds of people and their animals participate in the Redwood City Pet Parade, known far and wide as the “happiest event of the year!” This year’s family activities include demonstrations by the famous Skyy Dogs USA, the same group that performs at half time at 49ers, Raiders, and Warrior’s games. There will be live music, many arts and crafts booths for the young and young at heart to enjoy, along with good food and over 80 outstanding vendor booths. Of course there will be a photographer to take pictures of people and their favorite pets, and people making “Paw Prints” of pets that are suitable for framing. The Monterey Bay Aquarium will even have a van where you can create a Virtual Aquarium, while watching live radio stations in action.

Everyone is invited to join in the fun, bring their pet pals, or just the family, to enjoy all of the activities. Contest categories include: Best Pet Costume, Best Pet and Owner Look-A-Like Costume, and Most Unusual Pet and Best Trick Contest. Families will enjoy shopping for gift and pet items at our vendor booths and special “Pet Parade” Tee shirts will be available. Our local restaurants and outdoor vendors will be open for the hungry crowd. Many animal Rescue Groups, including, Peninsula Humane Society will bring pets for adoption. There will even be birds and bunnies to adopt. All participants should bring water for themselves and their pets!

Costumes are encouraged for pets, and for humans, too! Get your registration form on the City’s website at, or contact: Jeri Joseph-Hover at 650.369.9010 or You can also sign up for the contest at 11 am on the day of the Pet Parade. There is a $5 entry fee for each pet to be judged in a contest, but there is no fee to walk along and be part of the Pet Parade. This event is sponsored by Redwood City Parks and Recreation Department, Redwood City Redevelopment Agency, and the Civic Cultural Commission. The focus of this year’s Pet Parade is to raise funds and supplies for our Rescue Groups and Search and Rescue Teams. Anyone with items to donate or who would like to be a vendor or volunteer please contact: Jeri Joseph-Hover.
