Redwood City Holds Press Conference Today to Discuss
Sims' Response to City Demands
Members of press invited to attend press conference today at 2pm to learn Sims response to the City's directives to increase safety at their Redwood City location.
Redwood City, Calif. -- The City of Redwood City invites the members of the media to a press conference today to discuss the outcome of last week's meeting with Sims where the City outlined a number of requirements for Sims to follow in order to remain in operation. The press conference will take place at City Hall, Council Chambers, 1017 Middlefield Road, 94063 at 2pm.
As previously reported, the day following the most recent Sims fire on December 17, 2013, the City of Redwood City met with Sims to outline a number of conditions to follow in order to remain operating on Port property over the next two months. City officials made clear, that in collaboration with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who will be in attendance at the press conference, the agencies will further evaluate the Sims operation over the next 60 days to determine the short and long term requirements for Sims continued operation in Redwood City. Since the meeting on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, Fire Chief Jim Skinner and City Manager Bob Bell have been in regular discussion with Sims to determine their adherence to all directives.
"We take the health of our residents in San Mateo County and beyond very seriously," explains Mayor Gee. "Our hope is that the City's list of stringent requirements and close scrutiny by multiple agencies will safeguard public resources and most importantly, the air quality of our community from another fire at Sims."
The press conference will begin promptly at 2pm, and will conclude by 2:30pm. The building will be open to the media at 1:30pm. Parking will be reserved for press in the back lot of City Hall. Members of the media can access the parking lot off of Main or Jefferson, and look for the press signage. There is very limited access to City Hall this week, so members of the media will need to identify themselves by badge or business card.
