City Announces Hiring of New Public Communication & Engagement Manager
Redwood City, CA - The City of Redwood City announced today the hiring of Sheri Costa-Batis as Public Communication and Engagement Manager. Ms. Costa-Batis, who most recently was Public Affairs Specialist with the City of San Mateo, will start in her new position on July 24. She will be filling the position held since 2001 by Malcolm Smith, who is retiring from the City.

"Her proven track record, her deep skill set covering both traditional and new media, and her strong passion for public service and community engagement made her the top candidate to fill this critical role with Redwood City."
Ms. Costa-Batis has over 15 years of public information and community engagement experience including with a private-sector public relations firm, as well as with the City and County of San Francisco, where she was a public affairs/information officer focusing on public works. She also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications and a Master's Degree in Public Administration.

As the Public Communication and Engagement Manager, Ms. Costa-Batis will be responsible for managing the City's community engagement, public information, and media relations programs. Among other efforts, a key role of the position is keeping the community up-to-date on important City programs and services, policies, events, projects, and developments. Ms. Costa-Batis will also plan and implement creative outreach strategies to provide opportunities for meaningful community engagement and involvement, input, and participation. The use of new/social media tools will be an important focus for Ms. Costa-Batis' as Redwood City continues its leading-edge work in effectively engaging the community.
