Redwood City’s City Council Accepting Applications for
Available Seat on Library Board

Selected candidate will serve as an ambassador who is
passionate about the Library’s mission

Redwood City, Calif. – The City of Redwood City is currently seeking applications for an available seat on the Library Board to ensure the Library continues to serve as the learning center of the Redwood City community.   The application process is currently open and will close on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 5pm.  Interested applicants can go online to access an application.

This volunteer position is appointed by City Council. The selected resident will serve an important community service on library matters of high public interest that align with and help to realize the City Council’s policy priorities.  Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to go online to review prior minutes and agendas of the Library Board in order to better understand roles, expectations, and responsibilities of serving on this important board.

Members of the Library Board are passionate about the mission of our Library as the learning center of our community and the place where people turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information. Examples of general responsibilities are: ensuring that literacy remains a core value; approving and creating the Strategic Plan; acting as a community liaison and Library advocate; seeking collaborative opportunities; raising funds; and recruiting volunteers. To serve on the seven-member Library Board, an applicant must be a resident and elector of incorporated Redwood City. The selected candidate will serve the remainder of a four-year term for a currently vacant seat, and will serve without compensation. Members cannot hold any other public office or position in the City while serving as members.

“The Library serves a key role in carrying out the City Council’s Strategic Initiatives, namely, the initiative ‘Building a Community for All Ages,’” states Mayor Jeffrey Gee. “The selected resident will be a City ambassador responsible for advancing the mission of the Library and ensuring that it continues to serve our diverse community.”
