Community Invited to Join Redwood City Mayor Jeffrey Gee
on “Virtual Ride Along” on Redwood City Police Patrol
Redwood City, CA - The Redwood City Police Department is pleased to invite the community to be part of a “virtual ride along” with Redwood City Mayor Jeffrey Gee, as he joins police on patrol. Live-tweeting of patrol activity during the ride-along will bring connected community members right into the police car, for a four-hour patrol with Mayor Gee. This is believed to be the first time the Mayor of a city in the San Francisco Bay Area has participated in a virtual ride-along, another way that the Redwood City Police Department is on the leading edge of engaging the community.
The virtual ride-along takes place:
- Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 4 – 8 pm
Join through the Redwood City Police Department’s Twitter account, @redwoodcitypd
Mayor Gee will ride-along with officers on patrol as they respond to calls for service, engage in enforcement activity, visit various neighborhoods, conduct traditional foot patrol of community events, and interact with members of the community in an informal setting at a local coffee shop.
A Redwood City Police officer on the Department’s Social Media Team will be riding with Mayor Gee and live-tweeting activity as it occurs during the course of the patrol shift, via the official Police Department Twitter account: @redwoodcitypd. Tweets may include pictures and videos, and all tweets will include the hashtag: #RCPDGee. Twitter users can also ask Mayor Gee questions during the ride-along by using the hashtag or mentioning the Department. The Mayor will be responding to tweets from the public during the ride-along.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone in the community to experience a police patrol and learn more about the great job our police officers do,” said Mayor Gee. “I’ll be in the patrol car, but you can come along via Twitter, and join me in getting an close-up look at this critical public service provided to the people of Redwood City. I’m looking forward to interacting with you on Twitter, from the field on August 7.”
A video invitation from Mayor Gee to join him on his ride-along can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/102250184.
Additional information regarding the Mayor’s virtual ride-along will be available via the Redwood City Police Department’s social media platforms in the days leading up to the event. The Police Department launched all of its social media platforms in June 2011, and since then has gained more than 5,400 Twitter followers and over 2,600 “likes” on Facebook.
