Peter Koehler | Synapse School | Young Rembrandts | Sewing

Van Gogh Starry NightVisual Arts Camp
Age 5-9
with Dr. Peter Koehler, artist, Ph.D. in Mathematics, researched and taught for 4 years at Stanford University. He currently teaches at the Nueva School for gifted & talented children.
This is for creative kids who love the Arts, love to paint and want to learn new imaginative ways to express them selves. We’ll use lots of vibrant paint to create our own interpretation of Monet’s Garden , Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Nature’s Coral Reefs. There will be a large variety of other art materials too : Enjoy pottery clay- a selection of wooden pieces to make 3-D sculptures a variety of colorful paper for collages and we apply oil pastels in new ways to make designs and scenes of your own imagination . May be you are inspired by Animals ,flowers by stars and planets or the Northern Lights .Students should bring a snack each day and a smock or apron to cover clothes. A $30 material fee is due to instructor first day of camp. Lab fee of $25 payable to instructor at 1st class.

This year we are teaming up with Synapse School in Menlo Park (bordering RWC). Synapse is an independent elementary/middle school that offers an advanced academic curriculum fully integrated with social & emotional learning.

Terminology used in fine art making; a variety of processes from sculpting and mixed media to drawing, watercolor, and printmaking; forming one’s aesthetics; developing problem-solving skills and self-confidence are all part of the Marvegos Art Exploration program. All that and fun too!

Fine Art Fundamentals new

Developing one’s own style, while learning about form and composition, is at the heart of this Marvegos program. Each session focuses on two media; thus developing students’ understanding of particular media. Marvegos projects are structured to engage creativity and problem-solving skills.

Dinosaur Drawing Camp

Age 6-12
This week with Young Rembrandts will be fun filled with cartoons of dinosaurs! First we will draw cartoons where dinosaurs are as people, then the next day the dinosaurs will be in motion (like driving a car), then we will draw a sequence using dinosaurs as the subject to tell a joke. Come
have a Dino-rific time with us this week! Lab Fee: $10 payable at 1st class.

Bean Bag Drawing Camp
Age 6-12
There are hundreds of bean bags out there! But this week Young Rembrandts will dive into detail and pick a few bean bag animals to draw. First students will draw animals in a scene or with a border pattern in the background, then we will draw individual animals with enhanced skills, then we will draw a group scene of many bean bag animals!

Princess Drawing Camp
Age 5-7
Everybody loves to play dress-up! In this workshop we will learn to draw ourselves in glamour wear. We will draw accessories including purses, crowns and jewelry. Then we will draw simple faces with crowns and hats. After that we will revisit the first few days lessons while we draw
figures wearing fancy gowns with a variety of accessories. Step-by-step Young Rembrandts drawing techniques will insure our success! Pencils, color pencils, markers and SharpiesTM will be used.

Teddy Bear Drawing Camp new
Age 5-7
Teddy bears galore! Join the craze for personalized teddy bears by drawing your favorite bear in a variety of outfits. Enjoy three funfilled days full of drawing an assortment of bears in a wardrobe of
costume choices and settings. Learn fur techniques, different clothing styles and the fun of accessorizing! Media includes pencil, color pencil, SharpiesTM and markers.

Under the Sea Cartoon Drawing Camp
Age 6-12
Under the sea, under the sea, darling it’s better down where it’s wetter, take it from me...Come draw with Young Rembrandts in this fun filled week where we learn to draw characters and expressions on different under the sea creatures, then we will draw several sea characters and their buddies, then we will draw the sea creatures in a variety of action scenes.

Superhero Cartoon Drawing Camp new
Age 6-12
Pow! Bang! Wow! Now you can learn to draw your own comic book superhero. Each day we will complete a drawing while we explore a variety of characters. We will learn to draw the basic muscular superhero body and adapt it to the character of our choice. We will learn to draw action and movement while we complete the scenes around our superheroes, using pencils, markers and SharpiesTM. Our collection of drawings will be impressive! Lab Fee: $10 payable at 1st class.

Shopping Mall Drawing Camp new
Age 6-12
It’s time to go shopping! The good news is we can draw the items we love to shop for. Our artists will imagine themselves at some of their favorite stores and ―illustrate‖ the merchandise. We will draw shoes, boots, fashion accessories, along with popular zebra and leopard print
fabrics. A stop at a bath and candle shop will produce an illustration for these popular products. Our final day will result in one large store front scene, with our own clothing designs cleverly displayed. Pencil, color pencil and markers will be used.

Creative Sewing new
Grades 1st -3rd & 3rd-5th
with Synapse School staff
Don’t you worry if you’ve never held a needle and thread before! In this course students will learn about different stitches and how to create patterns. Sewing projects will include items that children can hug and sleep with including pillows, stuffed animals, and blankets and items that they can use everyday, such as a wallet, a drawstring pouch, and a tote. The Program is personalized, designed to meet the abilities of every child. Sewing activities help children develop fine motor, construction, and creative skills.
