“FIZZ”-ICAL PHENOMENA & CHE-MYSTERY Age 5-12 Take a walk on the wild side in this crazy week of sleuth science. Have
a ton of fun as we whip up potions and experiment with all kinds
of chemical reactions, including growing our own crystals, making
sidewalk chalk, and a chromatography t-shirt to keep. Mix it up as we
experiment with molecular madness, radical reactions and “fizz”-ical
and chemical reactions. Discover what those crazy chemists are really
up to in their laboratories. Then use everything you’ve learned to solve
the Mad Science Mystery; even Sherlock couldn’t figure this one out!
Mad Messages, Crazy Chemistry, Radical Reactions, Chemical Counting,
Scene of the Crime.
WACKY ROBOTS & WIDGETS
Age 7-12 Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week
of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will
design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations.
Campers will even construct a geodesic dome big enough for all of
them to sit inside. Then the machine madness starts…children will
discover how different machines, simple and complex, are used in our
daily lives. Kids will design simple machines using pulleys, wedges,
screws and levers and have fun learning how catapults work. We will
use the skills we’ve learned to build a Mad Science robot that we can
keep, all while learning the science of robotics. Energy Burst, Junior
Engineers, Machine Mania, Motion Notion, Robots 101
NASA: JOURNEY INTO OUTER SPACE
Age 5-12 Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement
and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. See the principles
of thrust and propulsion at work in a real rocket launch. Explore the
atmosphere on earth and beyond. Watch star dust burn, and journey
through a galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars. Explore
the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse
in this “mad” planetary tour. Probe the mysteries of meteors and
bounce around satellite light as you learn about space phenomena.
Experience the life of an astronaut as you suit up for space flight. This
is an experience that is truly out of this world! Earth and Beyond;

REACTIONS IN ACTION
Age 5-12
Picture yourself as Sir Isaac Newton as we discover how things move
with science. Experiment with inertia and gravity as you learn what
football players, ballet dancers and scientists have in common. Explore
how equipment and movement work together to help you enjoy your
favorite sports. Learn about photography and the movie making
business as we examine how a camera works, how film captures
light and stores images, how motion pictures got started, and how
filmmakers make images move. Spend some time in the lab learning
the tools and techniques that real chemists use, and perform some
spectacular hands-on projects.

GALILEO’S INVENTIONS
Grades 2nd-5th & 6th-8th (Plus one Girl’s Only Class) with Synapse School Galileo’s discoveries marked a counterpoint in the world’s understanding
of the structure of the universe. Learn about the different views about
the earth and the sun and how the scientific method and technology
affect what we know about our physical world. Through hands-on
activities, students will discover the ways by which scientists measure
the speed of light, gravity, scale and distances of planets, the moon,
the sun, and all the other stars in our universe. If aliens exist in other
universes, what would they know about life on earth? Students will also
learn about current issues and discoveries of the universe, including the
Big bang, Dark Energy, and possibly the existence of other universes.
LEONARDO DA VINCI’S INVENTIONS
Grades 2nd-5th & 6th-8th with Synapse School Leonardo da Vinci’s works represent the intersection of science and
art! Discover and test how Leonardo da Vinci’s theories and inventions
work. Learn about Leonardo da Vinci’s principles in art and science
through hands-on engineering, applied math, and art activities. Explore
scientific thinking through art and sensory perceptions and learn art
through engagement in scientific discoveries and experimentations.
Create Leonardo da Vinci inventions and through an experiential
process, discover different types of perspectives, aero engineering
structures and mechanisms, as well as experimentations with
hydraulics, and bridges.
THOMAS EDISON’S INVENTIONS
Grades 2nd-5th & 6th-8th with Synapse School Edison’s professional career represents the turning point from the
lab inventor to lab entrepreneur! Inspired by Edison’s life and works,
students will build-to-learn simulations of Edison’s inventions.
There will be two parts in the curriculum—BUILD (simulating Edison
inventions) and DESIGN (integrating design-thinking), where students
will build/design inventions relevant to the 21st century. Students will
learn to observe, document, and analyze their hands-on experiences
and connect these with applied mechanical engineering concepts and
processes; the Edison process of experimentation and invention; and
how failure builds new knowledge..
