R.L.Muraca,
Ph.D., established the VMSC Computer Education Program in 1991.
Dr..Muraca, a retired Stanford University professor and a dedicated
educator, recognized the need to keep the senior community informed of
new age computer information technology. His desire was to leave a
legacy to the community. As a volunteer he set-up the complete computer
program, donated all computer equipment and was the first to teach
computer classes at our Center. After his death, in 1995, Richard Delp,
the late Carl Lombardi, and other dedicated volunteers carried on his
work.
Today
we have more than a dozen volunteers. As their predecessors, they also
strive for excellence in our continually growing and ever-changing
program. The program continues to be a successful model and serves
local seniors as well as seniors from other peninsula cities. Computer
equipment is upgraded and maintained by volunteers. Purchases are made
from registration fee funds.
The
Computer Education of the VMSC is always looking for volunteers to
teach a computer class or to help out during the lab hours. If you
enjoy working with people, this is the opportunity for you. |
