Summer Teen Adventure Weeks traveling

All camp weeks are Day Trips-, Monday - Friday (except overnight trip week #4) Camps run 10am-5pm unless listed otherwise
Calling all adventure seekers! If you’re looking for a fast-paced, engaging, trip-based camp you’ve come to the right place! Our Summer Teen Adventure camp provides week after week of exciting trips and activities that will engage even the most seasoned day-camper. Each week, campers will visit new places and seek new ways to challenge themselves with trips and activities designed especially for the ‘tween’ and beyond. Summer Adventure Weeks are geared toward teens that have completed the 6th through the 10th grade.

Each trip will begin and end at the Red Morton Community Center. Most trips will depart at 10:00am and return by 4:00pm.

Extended Care is available through the Red Morton Teen Center for an additional fee.

Junior Fire Academy
Age 11-15
with the Redwood City Fire Department Staff
Ever dream of being firefighter? Well stop dreaming and start doing at the Junior Fire Academy! Participants develop life long
skills not only learning about emergency preparedness, but also how to work together to accomplish tasks.

Taught by professional firefighters, participants learn skills including: First Aid, CPR, exit drills, fire extinguisher use, disaster preparedness, and home safety. In addition to the practical skills they can use everyday, participants learn what its like to be a firefighter by extinguishing fire with fire hoses, proper lifting techniques for moving ladders and hose, hose management, and they even get to climb the 100 foot tall ladder! All activities are optional, but positive, encouraging attitudes are not. This is a great opportunity to explore a day in the life of a firefighter! Bring a bag lunch Monday-Thursday. On Friday at noon, family and friends are encouraged to attend the potluck lunch just before the Skills Presentation and Graduation Ceremony. Please indicate T-shirt size when signing up.

Junior Lifeguard Program
Age 12-15
This hands-on training for age 12- 15 year olds will provide real job experience in Redwood City’s Aquatics Programs. Applicants must have prior swim experience and have an interest in working with young children.

Throughout the summer you will…
   • Participate in Team Building and Personal Skills Training
   • Work with the Redwood City Lifeguard team
   • Assist with Swim Lessons along side a Certified Lifeguard
   • Gain valuable Lifeguard Experience
   • Learn about rescue equipment, techniques, and water safety
   • Assist in Pool Maintenance & Facility Cleaning
   • Have a lot of Fun!

The program will be broken up into (4) two-week sessions. Junior Lifeguards will receive a staff T-Shirt and Jr. Lifeguard hat. Junior Lifeguards must provide their own swimsuit; girls should wear a
solid blue or black athletic one-piece, and boys should wear blue or black swim trunks. Please sign up early as spaces are limited. Jr. Guards can work in the mornings or afternoons depending on their individual preference.

L.I.T. GirlsLeadership in Training (L.I.T.)
Age 13-15

Interested in gaining professional experience while working handson in a summer camp setting?
The Leader in Training (LIT) Program gives teens the opportunity
to develop important job skills and prepare for future employment
through training, hands-on experiences, and evaluation. Learn
useful leadership skills, get hands on training with young children,
and meet interesting new people. Please note: There are limited
spaces available and although camp preferences are taken into
consideration, site placement will be assigned by L.I.T directors.

A certificate of completion will be given to all participants at L.I.T. Appreciation Event.

The Leadership in Training program will be broken up into four two week sessions, each at $75 per session. Applications must be picked up at the Red Morton Community Center, located at 1120
Roosevelt Avenue or the Sandpiper Community Center located at 797 Redwood Shores Parkway after April 1, 2015. Applications are due by 5:00pm, April 17, 2015 and interviews will be held from May 11th though May 22nd. This is a competitive process. All applicants must provide a written application and the most qualified will be asked to interview for the available positions. A mandatory training will be held 6/15-6/19. (No program on July 3, 2015)

Driver Education is a LIFE SKILL class covering numerous topics related to being a safe driver and pedestrian. Students learn best through effective classroom instruction with a credentialed teacher maximizing the benefits of teacher-student interaction, discussion, video analysis, and instant feedback. This Calif. state required course is needed to obtain a driver’s instruction permit. Class does not include behind-the-wheel instruction. Learn strategies for both SAT and ACT to reach your best potential score for either of these tests. Effective lesson and practice units give the students a solid understanding of different types of SAT and ACT test questions as well as methods to analyze and answer each of those problems. Students are increasingly taking both tests and these two popular tests are merging in content and format. Take only one class that covers both and find your best test fit!
