Youth Science Camps 2015

Sciensational Camps bridge *
with Sciensational was founded by Neil Schulman, a former chemistry teacher, who started Sciensational Workshops for Kids 30 years ago.
Sign up for AM & PM Camps and stay for lunch for no additional fee! OR sign up for one camp and one of our other Recreation camps that qualify for Bridge Care to make a full day.

Age 7-12
How would you like to build a robot that has four built-in microphones? It will detect the sound source and in turn it will move and turn accordingly. It is your own robot to build and take home. Wow! It starts flashing and plays Do-Re-Me. Make it move the way you want it to move. It is so smart. It will move in
its own routine if it does not get a signal in 1 minute. It will go to sleep if you do not issue any commands in 90 seconds. However, you can wake it up. Learn about the different gears and sensors

as you build it. Get to build other robots working in groups. Join in our Sumo wrestling and obstacle course events with what you have built. See everything happening as you build. That’s the
Sciensational way! No camp 7/3

30 different projects and experiments are built with your own electronic kit to keep in this hands-on workshop. The Science Electronics Lab will stimulate kids’ minds by using easy to understand experiments to increase their knowledge of electronics. Science project ideas will come alive as they build the 30 projects while working with Electronic Circuits. The electronics kit is reusable. Have fun designing your own projects once you’ve built all 30. Kids can proceed at their own pace. Each participant will keep: an 80 page manual, 1 solderless circuit board, 12 resistors, 2 capacitors, 2 light-emitting diodes, 2 transistors, 1 battery snap, 1 diode, 1 speaker, 1 timer, 1 photocell, 1 rectifier, 1 potentiometer, and 1 switch. Learn the ins and outs of how they work. Kids will be grouped by age. No camp 7/3

All aboard for lots of hands-on fun. Join in the escapades of Harry and his friends. Play quidditch. Make an edible wand. We will brew some fantastic potions to drink. Let’s create and watch some
amazing chemical reactions. Watch a mirage appear. You won’t believe it! Wonder where the sorting hat will place you? Make cool crystals. Come join us where the magic of science, art, and literature
meet. Harry, Ron, and Hermoine are waiting for your arrival. Experiment with colored magic sand. See a mysterious glowing ball.

DROP CAR (PM) bridgeafter care
Age 6-11
Do you want to design and build things that you create- not just a model you purchase? Well this is the place for you. Build and keep an air powered Hover Craft. You make it defy gravity. Once it’s up and moving, then using your creativity, control its direction. Get to build and take home your own car. The purpose is to build a super car powered by more than one source of energy. This can be one crazy looking vehicle. We provide you with many materials for that dynamic vehicle that you will build. Also get to build a Egg Drop Car. The purpose is to build a gravity vehicle that can cushion a raw egg as the car holding the egg is dropped from a high height. We provide you with the material to cushion the fall. You have to be creative.
In these three challenges in one workshop, you will learn about Laws of Motion, Energy, Air Pressure, Friction, Lift, Speed and Acceleration. You are never to young to learn and have fun in a Sciensational hands on way.

Age 5-12
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s...everything from the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights. This hands-on program will let you learn all about aerodynamics and the world above us. Explore
the basic principles of flight, build airplanes, test them in wind tunnels, ride a hovercraft and construct balloon copters. Discover the mysteries of the galaxy, learn about celestial navigation, and take home a rocket that you have built yourself. We’ll be moving at light speed throughout this high velocity week!

Age 7-12
Creative Contraption Warning! This Mad Science camp is designed by you—the Inventor! Each day you’ll be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors and the most important thing of all – your mind! With a little bit of ingenuity you’ll construct catapults and forts, then lay siege to the castle. Assemble your own working light saber to take home! While Thomas Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration; this camp is 100% fun!

Age 5-12
Lights, Camera, Reaction! Picture yourself as Sir Isaac Newton in this Mad Science camp as we discover how things move with science. Experiment with inertia and gravity as you learn what football players, ballet dancers and scientists have in common. Explore how equipment and movement work together to help you enjoy your favorite sports. Learn about photography and the movie making process as we examine how a camera works, how film captures light and stores images, how motion pictures got started, and how filmmakers make images move. Spend some time in the lab learning the tools and techniques that real chemists use, and perform some spectacular hands-on experiments.

Age 5-12
Young biologists explore the natural world and the adaptations that allow birds and beasts to thrive. Have fun finding and magnifying nature’s smallest creatures, engineer animal habitats, pour plaster casts of animal tracks, make recycled paper, and build a water filter! Discover what owls eat and identify the bones they leave behind! Create your own blob of “Mad Mucus” and learn about cilia, cells and circulation!

Spy Academy
Age 5-12
Look out 007-the Mad Science Spy Academy is here! From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use.

Age 7-12
Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations. Then the machine madness starts…children will discover how different machines, simple and complex, are used in our daily lives. Kids will design simple machines using pulleys, wedges, screws and levers and have fun learning how catapults work. We will use the skills we’ve learned to build a Mad Science robot that we can keep, all while learning the science of robotics.

scientists miniAge 5-12
Take a walk on the wild side in this crazy week of sleuth science. Have a ton of fun as we whip up potions and experiment with all kinds of chemical reactions, including growing our own crystals, making sidewalk chalk, and learning the science of chromatography. Mix it up as we experiment with molecular madness, radical reactions and “fizz”-ical and chemical reactions. Discover what those crazy chemists are really up to in their laboratories. Then use everything you’ve learned to solve the Mad Science Mystery; even Sherlock couldn’t figure this one out!

Age 5-12
Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. See the principles of thrust and propulsion at work in a real rocket launch. Explore the atmosphere on earth and beyond. Watch star dust burn, and journey through a galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in this “mad” planetary tour. Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light as you learn about space phenomena. Experience the life of an astronaut as you suit up for space flight. This is an experience that is truly out of this world!

Little Green Thumbs

Flowers and minds can’t blossom without STEMs. This camp is specially designed for inquisitive pre-K or Kinder-“Gardeners”. Kids discover how to paint with wind, build a bug model, start their own garden and learn what nature needs to make their plants grow! Non-stop activities keep your little Mad Scientists engaged and focused! Kids give it two Green Thumbs up!!
