Fall 2009 Activity Guide
Look for your copy in your mailbox after August 14 . All residents of Redwood City and Woodside will receive the brochure in the mail. If you live in a different city than those mentioned above and would like to be added to the mailing list, email us!

Online Registration Dates:
Residents- August 19 at 11am
Non-residents- August 31 at 11am

Amateur and professional Salsa chefs will compete for fun, prizes, and Salsa Glory at the mouth watering and exciting Salsa Tasting & Competition, where the public takes part in judging. Three stages of live music with Latin, Salsa and Family themes, as well as free dance lessons, will keep Redwood City grooving all day long.

Target Family Days, generously sponsored by Target Stores, will attract kids and adults of all ages one Sunday per month, from 11am until 3pm. Three cultural themes including East Indian-Bollywood, Hawaiian and Latin will round out each enriching event with music, children’s performers, hands-on activities for kids and more.

Los Pinguos…. are a unique hybrid of styles that has the passion of the Gipsy Kings, the energy of Manu Chau & the songs of the Beatles. They came to the US from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres, Peruvian cajón (box-drum) and harmonizing vocals.  Vivacious and infectious, the sound of Los Pinguos has claimed fans worldwide, from their hometown to the streets of Los Angeles.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona begins with Valentine and Proteus traveling from Verona to Milan, Valentine heading for Milan to serve in the Duke of Milan's court. Proteus joins his friend with his servant Launce, but would rather be with Julia, the women he loves and whom secretly loves him as well. Proteus is heading for the court because his father has decided it is time for his son to make a living. In Milan, Valentine falls in love with Silvia, the Duke of Milan's daughter but unfortunately for the two lovers, Silvia is to marry wealthy courtier Thurio instead. Valentine and Silvia therefore prepare to elope but Valentine reveals his plans to Proteus who is also in love with Silvia and who decides to tell the Duke of the elopement plan to have Silvia all to himself. Valentine suspects his friend loves Silvia, but Proteus denies this, hiding his true feelings but questioning the morality of loving

Redwoodcityswing.com and Downtown Redwood City are excited to bring to you "Lindy in the Square." On the last Sunday of each month Courthouse Square will host a FREE Outdoor Swing Dance Event from 12:00 - 2:30pm.
Featuring free mini-lessons & open social dancing for all ages & all levels, no experience needed and no partner required.

Marlin Park

Dave Rocha has been performing with his jazz group for more than 20 years. He has played in a number of major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. His band plays an eclectic mix of jazz standards (by Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, etc.) “pop” tunes (Cole Porter, Gershwin and Jobim) and original compositions. This covers a wide variety of styles from up-tempo bebop, “modal” tunes, swing and blues, to Latin jazz, ballads and jazz waltz.

Why don’t women and men understand each other better?  It often appears that men and women are speaking somewhat different languages which can lead to considerable misunderstanding.  This talk will examine some of the biological, psychological and linguistic differences between genders.  Come away with ideas to listen and understand each other in a new way.
