Bohemian Cabaret
Saturday, September 18, 2010

Courthouse Square
European Cabaret! Vintage Americana! Balkan Belly Dance! Neo-Classical Opera! Old World Yiddish Theater! Welcome to the six-piece, Portland, Oregon-based Vagabond Opera. Based in the Pacific Northwest, yet encompassing the world, Vagabond Opera delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret. Paris hot Jazz, gut bucket swing, Tangos, Ukrainian folk-punk ballads, Klezmer and vigorous originals meet a world of riverboat gambling queens, Turkish belly dancers, and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. Weaving elements of Kurt Weil, Duke Ellington and Edith Piaf with absurdist flair, theatrics and an old world mood, Vagabond Opera presents the new wave of opera--lusty (trained) voices singing in 11 languages and presenting a cabaret of rich musical phrasing, sparkling lyrics and indomitable stage presence, all played with exuberance, skill and a gritty Vagabond edge. This is Opera liberated and reinvented for everyone. Click for More...

3rd Annual Salsa Festival
Saturday, September 25, 2010
Courthouse Square
Redwood City is going to be hot during its 3rd annual Salsa Festival, on Saturday September 25th, 2010. Three stages featuring Latin, Salsa and DJ Salsa music, plus a Family stage for kids and adults, will fire up Redwood City with music and dancing (including free Salsa lessons) all day long. Along with tasty salsa, local restaurants will also offer their delicious fares throughout the day. Circus Tent: 1044 Middlefield Rd. Downtown Redwood City
Ticket Information Coming Soon!
The Zoppé Family Circus welcomes guests into the intimate 450 seat tent for a one-ring circus that honors the best history of the Old-World Italian tradition. Starring Nino the clown, the circus is propelled by a central story (as opposed to individual acts) that feature acrobatic feats, equestrian showmanship, canine capers, clowning and plenty of audience participation. Giovanni Zoppé, the sixth-generation circus performer who plays Nino, says the show aims higher than what passes for circuses these days. "We try to touch every emotion during the show," he says. "They'll laugh, they'll cry, and they'll feel for the characters. It's more of an event than a show."

The Redwood Symphony is an innovative community orchestra known for exemplary musicianship and for introducing local audiences to edgier, more modern music as well as thoughtful presentation of the classics. Founded in 1985, as an all-volunteer orchestra devoted to ambitious and contemporary repertoire, Redwood Symphony has performed works ranging from Mahler and Beethoven to Frank Zappa and Charles Ives in an informal and fun format.

The 21st season will include an ambitious, eclectic mix of beloved classics by composers such as Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Brahms, as well as Shostakovich's Festive Overture and Paganini's 3rd movement from Violin Concerto No. 2. Innovative and entertaining music of our own time, sprinkled with pops, jazz, and film scores will also be featured, including those from Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, by Jobn Williams, as well as Mission Impossible and Stars and Stripes Forever. This special season will feature a 20th birthday celebration for the orchestra, an exciting premiere, outstanding soloists, a special program of Jewish theater music and an afternoon Family Concert targeted at exposing young listeners to musical works that may change their lives forever.
