What We Heard: Some participants at the September 27 Community Workshop expressed that preservation and restoration of the wetlands is valuable to the community as open space and also as a buffer to help manage flooding, sea level rise, and other global warming-related issues. Open land also could be used as a green technology park, with solar and wind farms.
Others indicated that a balance of housing (some affordable), commercial/industrial uses, recreational facilities/opportunities, and nature is important. For industrial uses, some participants expressed the need for water desalination, co-generation, green technology, and building materials recycling areas. Docktown and other live-aboard areas, Pete’s Harbor, and the Peninsula Yacht Club were mentioned as unique areas that should be preserved and/or encouraged.
