What: The planning team refined the alternatives for the Veterans/Broadway Corridor to focus on:

What We Heard: Compared to other focus areas, not many participants at the September 27 Workshop expressed a clear preference for a particular Veterans/Broadway alternative. Of those that did have a preference, supporters of Alternative 2 noted that it encourages transportation options, creates destinations around Redwood Creek, has better potential for senior and affordable housing, is a better place for housing than the Bayfront, and uses higher-valued land more efficiently than industrial uses.
Alternative 3, also focused on Office Technology/Mixed-Use, is similar to the original Alternative 1 (from the September 27), which some participants highlighted as more realistic and achievable, encourages jobs rather than housing, and creates a more friendly neighborhood setting. In addition, Alternative 3 includes live/work per Planning Commission direction.
Overall, participants supported creation of a shuttle or transit linking North Fair Oaks, Veterans/Broadway, and Downtown. In addition, participants expressed concern about restoration of creeks, recreation amenities, pedestrian/bicycle safety and access, and open space. Other feedback endorsed creating “riverwalks” in this area with restaurants and shops.
